Ryan & Megan (& Vamsi) Visit

About a month ago, we found out that Ryan and Megan were going to fly down to visit us in Dallas over the Easter weekend. This was great as we had not seen them since their wedding in Cancun in November. The intent of their trip was primarily to see us (of course), but also and perhaps more importantly for Megan, to check out Texas. For those of you who may not have met Ryan's wife Megan, you should know that there's two things she loves in the world...one would be Ryan (duh!), and taking a close second would be the sun (and associated warm weather). Figuring that Texas has a lot of sun (and it does, along with humidity), Ryan thought he would humor Megan and check out the area.

Of course once Vamsi got word that Ryan and Megan would be down in Dallas, he figured he didn't want to be left out of the action. So about two days before Ryan and Megan flew down, in typical Vamsi-esque fashion (being the jetsetter that he is), Vamsi decided to fly down and spend the Easter weekend with us as well before heading to London on business. Next to Emily's family visiting over the New Years holiday, this was the most people we'd had in our apartment visiting at one time!

Saturday evening found us going to Chuy's, a local mexican restaurant. The evening was then capped with Cuervo shots and the poorly received movie Team America (we thought it might be funnier the second time). On Easter, with temps in the upper 60's, we headed out for a walk on the town (something our guests hadn't done for a while in Chicago with all the snow) and went to a local Easter dog parade (click on the link to see a video) in the Turtle Creek area of uptown. Of course Chris was prodded by Emily, Ryan, and Megan about his need to get a dog, to which Chris would promptly change the subject.

Being that Ryan and Megan would be heading down to Austin and San Antonio during the coming week, and then returning to DFW the following weekend, we figured we'd try and show them one of our more favored suburbs of Dallas, that of Rockwall, and then show them other parts of DFW the following weekend. Before the drive out to Rockwall, Vamsi made sure to pick up some bread-sticks at Pizza-Hut(shaking our heads).

We had been out to Rockwall a few weeks earlier for a wedding and had enjoyed the hills and handy location on a lake and figured this might entice Megan to move to Dallas (only so that we can later make fun of Ryan for moving to Texas). As it turned out, it seemed as though they enjoyed Rockwall, and were amazed at how affordable the real-estate is here as compared to Chicago for lakeside living.

The day and weekend was capped off with a fairly hurried attempt to put together an Easter dinner. Here was the menu:

- spinach & artichoke dip + plenty of wine
- a spiral cut Ham basted w/ honey
- scalloped potatoes w/ sharp cheddar cheese
- fresh green beans (Ryan didn't eat one)
- rolls (Ryan did like these)
- some nasty chocolate chip cookies for desert (Chris still ate them though)

So it will be interesting to see if Ryan & Megan end up feeling the urge to move to Texas after their weeklong visit. Even if they don't, it was great to see everyone and catch up.

Song of the day:
